AIRWAY MANAGEMENT

The Airway is the second procedure to fix after massive hemorrhage following "M-A-R-C-H" and/or "X-A-B-C-D" algorithms. There are several procedures to obtain a patent airway from BLS to surgical cricothyroidotomy.

NASOPHARYNGEAL AIRWAY (NPA)

The purpose of the NPA is to bypass upper airway obstruction at the level of the nose, nasopharynx or base of the tongue. It also prevents the tonge falling backward on the pharyngeal wall to prevent obstruction

SUPRAGLOTTIC AIRWAY

The i-Gel is the most widely used supraglottic in EMS. It has flexibility is usage by varied certification levels with an unconscious patient without a "gag" reflex. The i-Gel's come is sizes 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4 and 5.
